Oquendo Having Good Summer Run

Chicago Mt. Carmel (Ill.) 2014 center Nate Oquendo has preformed well at each camp stop he's had this summer. What did schools tell him following those good showings? He updated us on his progress at the Junior Rank camp this weekend.

Chicago Mount Carmel has an important piece of their offensive line coming back for the next two years in center Nathan Oquendo, a 6'1, 285-lb junior to be who has several schools showing interest in him.

"Northern Illinois, Georgia Tech, Illinois, and a lot of other Big Ten schools like Michigan [are interested]," Oquendo said.

The Illini brought one of their satellite camps right to Mount Carmel, and Oquendo took advantage of having the camp on his home turf to put on a good performance in drills and one on ones.

"They told me if I keep on working harder that I have a big shot with them and I can hopefully land an offer with them eventually."

From there, he went to Michigan, where he again showed his talents.

"Michigan likes me a lot actually. I had a real good day out at Michigan. I went undefeated. It was a good day. When they called the starting line, I was the center."

Oquendo also camped at Texas, Georgia Tech, Northern Illinois, as well as the Junior Rank camp in Chicago on Saturday, where he was again one of the top performers along the offensive line. While he does not have offers yet, continued improvement and showings like he had in June should bring them in time, and he admits he had a favorite school growing up.

"I would have to say Iowa was my favorite school and Michigan." he said.

Oquendo says he will also play defensive tackle this season.
