BEAVERTON, ORE.- The Opening kicks off today at the Nike World
Headquarters, with a full day of action on the slate. At 9 a.m.,
all 150
participants will do SPARQ Testing at the Bo Jackson Field, with the top 10
scores from the preliminaries moving on to the evening.
At 2 p.m., the Nike Football Training Camp, which all participants did during
the spring to earn their invitation, will take place on the Ronaldo Field.
Players will be broken up into positional units, just like at an NFTC.
Linemen will work, without pads, before going in full pads on Saturday and
Sunday in the Lineman Challenge. Skill players will audition for the draft
for the Nike 7ON, which is held on Friday evening, and teams for the Nike 7ON
will be revealed on Friday night.
At 5 p.m., the SPARQ National Championship will be back on Ronaldo Field,
with the 10 finalists battling it out for the 2012 SPARQ National Championships.
If last year is an indicator, the SPARQ National Champion should like their
chances in the Nike 7ON (assuming its a skill player). Last year, Landon Collins won the SPARQ then helped his team win the Nike 7ON, en route to earning
The Opening MVP honors.
