Just over a week ago, Old Dominion secured a commitment from one of the most underrated prospects in Virginia. Melvin Vaughn became the latest player to decide to stay home and play for the Monarchs.
“It feels good to have my decision made,” said Melvin Vaughn. “Now, I can go into my senior season fully focused and already know what school I am going to afterwards.”
The 6-foot-2,220-pound prospect knew Old Dominion was the place for him.
“I like ODU a lot...a whole lot,” he said. “It is also close to home. I have been there a few times and toured the campus. It already feels like home.”
There is a lot that Vaughn likes about the Monarchs.
“I like that they run a spread offense and that they throw the ball a lot,” he said. “I also have a strong relationship with Coach (Dealton) Cotton – my recruiting coach. He is always telling me a lot about the academics and football programs.”
So is Vaughn completely done with recruiting?
“I am done,” said Vaughn. “Mail comes to the school and I don’t even go pick it up anymore. It just feels good. Now, I can just get out there and be a leader and focus on winning another state title.”
Vaughn could either play linebacker or wide receiver for the Monarchs.
