"I went down there and saw the facilities, the weight room, the new fields and the stadium and everything is really nice," he explained, "and the coaching staff is real cool. I met the head coach and the O-line coach."
The 6'3, 297-lb Hamilton plays center for Cass Tech, but his versatility will help him in college.
"They said guard, but they know that if they need me at center, they can put me there and I can do that too."
Hamilton said he didn't necessarily need to have his decision made before the start of the season, it just worked out that way, but now he hopes to help his team repeat as state champs.
"We have a lot of people coming back, so hopefully we can make another run and win states."
And most importantly, he has made a big difference for his family.
"It feels good knowing my mom doesn't have to pay for college."
