West Deptford High (Westville, N.J.) defensive tackle Jamil Pollard is Rutgers-bound after pulling out of his letter of intent with Penn State in the wake of the sanctions against the school.
Pollard was enrolled in Penn State’s summer program, but will be at Rutgers at some point next week, although he still has to finish classes at Penn State. He will be eligible to play in the 2012 season, although he is expected to red-shirt.
News of his transfer to Rutgers was reported on ScarletReport.com’s premium message board over the weekend. Pollard deferred all questions to his coach, Clyde Folsom, over the weekend but told FOXSportsNEXT early Monday morning he was heading to Rutgers.
“He’s leaving Penn State and going to Rutgers” Folsom told the News of Cumberland County.
According to sources, Pollard first contacted Rutgers about the opportunity to transfer, and Scarlet Knights coach Kyle Flood alerted Penn State coach Bill O’Brien about the contact before the sides met.
As a senior, Pollard made 83 tackles, including five sacks, and forced two fumbles. His bench press is more than 400 pounds and he squats more than 450 pounds.
