“I picked up an offer from Duke yesterday when I visited,” said Artemis Robinson. “I was shocked. I was pretty excited – pretty fired up. My head coach had told me that they wanted me to come up for a visit and that they liked my film. I went with my father and little brother. I got there around 4 p.m. and was there until about 8 p.m. It was a great visit.”
The offer came from the Blue Devil’s head coach David Cuttcliffe.
“I talked to the head coach,” he said. “He told me that I’m a great athlete and I fit their type of defense. He said I could play both linebacker positions. We also talked about education and he told me a little about Duke. He seemed very serious about what he has going on at Duke and how they are building a program.”
The Scotland star felt comfortable around the Blue Devil’s coach.
“Me and Coach Cuttcliffe connected as soon as we met,” said Robinson. “He kept telling me that there was something about me that he really liked a lot and we just had a great vibe going on.”
Robinson liked the campus.
“They had a lot of things on campus that I didn’t expect them to have,” Robinson said. “They have a nice chapel and nice facilities.”
The offer definitely made an impression on 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker.
“I would say they are pretty high on my list,” he said. “I still don’t have a number one yet because I’m still going through the process. But, they are very high.”
Along with Duke, North Carolina A&T has also offered. He said Miami, Elon, and Appalachian State have been recruiting him pretty hard. Robinson also said the Hurricanes have mentioned offering and that he has been in constant contact with Miami’s linebacker coach Michael Barrow. This fall, he plans to take visits to Duke, Miami, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Robinson’s main focus is his senior season.
“Right now, my main goal this fall is to try to get back to the state championship,” he said. “I also want to become closer to the group guys that I’m playing with.”
Last season, Robinson helped Scotland High School win its first state championship. He had 92 tackles, four sacks, and three interceptions. He is in no hurry to make his college decision.
