Introducing: Tyler Owens
Ballard has had one of the best passing offenses in Jefferson County over the last several years. Senior quarterback Tyler Owen is ready to have another great season to follow up on his performance last year. Last year Owen threw for 1975 yards in 11 games for Ballard. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound signal caller also completed 58 percent of his passes last year. And hopes to prove that he's worthy of attention from schools at the next level. "I am looking forward to this season mainly because we have a lot to prove on the field. I can't wait until Friday nights to prove to everyone that Ballard is a serious contender," he said. And the better Ballard plays, the more schools will take notice of Owen's strengths and the areas he's working on improving. "I think that my strengths as a player are the ability to see the field and make a decision. Also if a play shuts down, I think I have the ability to extend the play and make something happen," said Owen. "I am working on throwing comfortably over the middle. With a spread offense, we open up the field, so I need to be able to make the throws across the deep middle," he continued. Owen spent time working at camps this summer and felt confident in his performances. "I have been to Murray State, Northwestern, Kentucky, Louisville and Western Kentucky for camps over the summer. I have done very well at all the camps this summer. I loved Murray State and Western Kentucky," he said. "Being a 6-foot-1 quarterback, I need to prove to college coaches that I can see over the line and make accurate throws," he said. Currently, Army, Murray State and Tiffin are showing the most interest in Owen. He's planning to visit Army in September and hoping to visit Kentucky, Murray State and Louisville this fall as well. FOX Sports Next will have more with Tyler Owen in the coming weeks.
