Rickie Calderon (6’1/180) has embraced his quarterback role since he moved to the position after his sophomore year. Formerly a tight end at Hawthorne High School, Calderon played quarterback for the Cougars last season but then transferred to Inglewood.
His schools may be different, but his role is the same.
“I’m just guiding my team through fall camp and we’re working,” said Calderon. “It’s tough in the heat but everyone is working towards that first game.”
On the recruiting front, Calderon has been in discussion with a few schools.
“I’ve been in contact with Occidental, San Jose State, Ohio, Stony Brook and Fordham.”
Calderon says he will play out his senior season and then weigh his options, but no matter where he decides to play, Calderon’s ultimate goal of getting his bachelor’s degree takes precedence over football.
“My education is the most important thing so I’m looking for a good academic school.”
