Scrimmage Report: SDSU Louisiana Targets
John Curtis Christian, ranked No. 25 in the nation by this network, faced St. Paul's and Brother Martin - both 5A Catholic schools from the New Orleans metro area - in a scrimmage late last week. John Curtis features San Diego State commit Brandon Porter at defensive back and linebacker Duke Riley, who holds an offer from the Aztecs. "We (secondary) didn't get much work whatsoever in the scrimmage," Porter said. "On the times they ran our defense stopped it near the line of scrimmage, and when they passed our rush was in their face. "I didn't get to unleash my aggression on anyone. This week we have Covington in the jamboree. In practice, I've been using my strength and quickness to make plays." Porter committed to San Diego State during a summer visit. "I feel good about the commitment," he said. "I'm going to love playing there. They've been showing me a lot of love since I committed; I have no doubts. "I've been talking about it with Duke. He can't wait to get out to California for an official visit. I think he'll like it, and we might get to play together in college." Riley, a three-star prospect, has several BCS offers. "Porter has told me good stuff about San Diego State," he said. "I'm going to check it out. I told their coaches it will be hard for me to get out there for a visit until I can take my official. Porter likes the atmosphere there, and I'm looking to find the program that fits me the best." Riley said his defensive unit played well in last week's scrimmage. "Our goal was to keep them from scoring on our first group and we did that," he said. "There wasn't a lot of passing and we stopped the run. We have a base 5-2 and also a 4-3 where we bring in (highly-touted 2014 LB) Kenny Young. "I'm just working on leading the team and filling gaps. Our wide receiver, (2014) Malachi Dupre, had six catches for over 200 yards. On one of the catches he had five defensive backs all over him. It was ridiculous. He jumped up and caught it over everyone." Riley says Curtis has a "really nice squad." The Patriots, 14-0 last year, host No. 12 Tampa (FL) Plant in early September at the Superdome.
