“It’s just a dream come true, that’s basically what it is, growing up a fan, to be able to go there and play for the team that you’ve grown up cheering for, it’s a great feeling,” Alvin Bailey said.
Bailey will join his close friend and former Armwood teammate, Florida freshman running back Matt Jones, and two of his Team Tampa 7on7 teammates, Florida 2013 commits Jordan Sherit and Vernon Hargreaves.
“It’s great, we now have to go against each other, but only in practice. It will be great playing on the same side of the ball, playing together as one, he said.
Ultimately, Bailey couldn’t say no to the chance to play at his favorite school, along side of his closest friends. Add the Gators winning tradition and short drive from Tampa to Gainesville, and Florida is the perfect fit.
“Three of my aunties went there, it’s just like a tradition. They like to win, that swayed me more, and having Matt there. It’s close to home, so that was like a double bonus right there.”
Bailey is excited to bring his specific skills to the Orange and Blue.
“I’m a hard worker, I’m going to do whatever I have to do for the team,” he said.
“I’ll probably be playing slot, so I’ll be the shifty guy that can get the touchdown.”
Bailey’s decision came down to a final three of Florida, Notre Dame, and UCF. He remains grateful to all the coaches that recruited him.
“I just want to thank Notre Dame and UCF for recruiting me so hard. Coach Alford from Notre Dame, and Coach Callahan from UCF, I just want to thank those guys for recruiting me,” he said.
While he says his commitment is solid, Bailey says he’ll probably take some other visits. Nothing is planned yet, and he isn’t sure where. And he doesn’t plan to cut his hair any time soon.
