The second week of high school football action in the state of Illinois strengthened the early résumés of several apparent powers. The updated FOX Sports NEXT rankings reflect how some have risen and others have fallen.
|
The most anticipated matchup of week two was the battle between Maine South and Wheaton Warrenville South, two traditional powers. The 19-13 win for the Redhawks was a strong statement, but wasn't enough to bump them past top-seeded Bolingbrook, which cruised to its second win.
On the downside from the game of the week, Wheaton Warrenville South starts the season 0-2 for the second consecutive year, but there's a bit more concern for this year's squad, which falls to 23rd in this week's rankings.
Joliet Catholic rebounded from its week-one loss to get its first win of the season, even without star running back Ty Isaac. The USC commitment is expected to miss the first few games of his senior year with a shoulder injury.
Is Isaac still Illinois' most talented athlete, or could another superstar boast such claim? That is the question handed to the Illinois High School experts of FOX Sports NEXT.
Allen Trieu - National Recruiting Analyst, FOX Sports NEXT
"The best player in the state is still Ty Isaac. He was on his way to showing it before getting injured and I have no doubt he'll show it when he gets back. There are plenty of top talents the state has to offer, but the USC commit is big, fast, and also a great receiver."
Beth Long - Midwest Field Reporter, FOX Sports NEXT
"The hottest player in the state is between two, Bolingbrook quarterback Aaron Bailey, who has led his team to two victories by a margin of 33-6 and 46-10 on the season. I can't decide between Bailey and Crete-Monee High receiver Laquon Treadwell -- who has also helped a strong Crete-Monee team to two victories on the season. Both are electric players and have bright futures."
Chris Emma - Publisher/Reporter, PurpleWildcats.com
"It's a shame that Ty Isaac is sidelined for the beginning of his senior season because there may not be a more dynamic playmaker in high school football. Isaac, the USC commit, is dangerous in space and is multi-faceted in any offense."
|
Ryan Easterling - Reporter, IllinoisPlaybook.com
"The state of Illinois has far more depth in the 2013 and 2014 classes than in a lot of recent years. The 2013 class in particular has a wide array of standout players, but the guy who has separated himself is Crete-Monee WR Laquon Treadwell. Treadwell, who is already a phenomenal receiver, is also playing safety this year."
