Scout caught up with him for a quick update.
How's it feel being the starting quarterback at Cleveland now?
"Awesome. It is a terrific opportunity to play football and lead my team every week and play ball with some of my closest friends."
I know you visited Mississippi State for the Auburn game, what did you like in Starkville?
"The small town atmosphere was tremendous. It reminded me of my hometown of Cleveland, Tn."
What other schools are you planning visit the fall at this time?
"Tennessee, LSU, Duke, Auburn, and Vanderbilt."
Do you have any early favorites?
"I'd say everyone is a favorite. I don't have an offers yet so I would say whenever I get the first one that team would most likely be my favorite."
Did you have a favorite school as a kid growing up?
"Nebraska - I have family out there and I have always been a Husker fan."
Being a left-handed quarterback, you are a little different with so many being right-handed. You have put up big numbers early in the season, what do you think you are doing well right now at QB?
"Right now, what I'm most proud of is ball control. I have only thrown one interception through five games."
You have attended the MVP Camp (Named Top QB in Prattville, Ala.), and college camps at Alabama, Nebraska, Penn St., and Tennessee. How have those camps helped you?
"They have put me in situations where I'm nervous so on Friday night's I'm able to be more relaxed. A lot of good preparation."
Let's talk a little about each school you camped at this summer; what did you like at:
Alabama: "Tradition, there is so much tradition at Alabama. I really liked their new O.C coach Doug Nussmeier."
Nebraska: "The facilities are so nice. I really liked the Ndamukong Suh weight room and their indoor facility."
Penn St: "I really like how hands on Coach O'Brien is. I think he is a great coach."
Tennessee: "I like Tennessee a lot, great facilities and coaching staff and it is close to home."
Herink is a sharp quarterback with a good arm and he throws a very catchable ball. Expect for more schools to show interest and begin to recruit him as we progress through the 2012 season.
