Defensive lineman Derek Walker impressed enough during the summer camp circuit to be offered a scholarship and he wasted no time in making a commitment.

Derek Walker, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound, defensive end, tight end from Lombard (Ill.) Glenbard East has given the University of Illinois his verbal commitment.

“I went there (Illinois) for camp and it just seemed to grab me.” Walker said.

“I feel comfortable with the coaches and Illinois is close to home.

“Right now I’m set on Illinois but you never know. If other schools offer me a scholarship during the season, I might take a look.”

Walker is not among the “Top 30” prospects in the Land of Lincoln but the potential and upside are definitely there to be a success at the next level.
