2014 quarterback Shelby Spence of De La Salle High in Chicago is looking to make his junior season a big one.
“The season is going well,” Spence said. “We are currently 3-1 at the moment.”
And there are several things that Spence is focusing to improve this season.
“My biggest improvement has been in my throwing motion,” Spence said. “It is a quicker and more compact release this year as opposed to last year.”
But that’s not it.
“I have also made strides running the ball,” Spence said. “And making smarter decisions.”
As for recruiting, that’s going well for the De La Salle signal caller.
“I am preparing my mid-season film to be evaluated and hopefully earn my first offer,” Spence said.
Spence recently visited Michigan State for their match-up against the Irish.
“I went to Michigan State this past weekend for their game against Notre Dame,” Spence said. “I had a great time, they have top notch facilites and a great game day atmosphere at Michigan State.”
But the Spartans aren’t the only school Spence has been hearing from on the recruiting trail.
“I have heard from Notre Dame, Michigan, Northwestern, Michigan State, Florida State, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Indiana,” Spence said. “I hope to make a few unofficial visits this fall.”
In the meantime, Spence is staying focused on his high school season.
“Our goal is to win our division, the Catholic League,” Spence said. “Then make a deep playoff run.”
He added, “We have state championship aspirations this season. This is something that we must earn, and work very hard to achieve.”
