On/Off the Field, Jones is Ballin'
Sometimes there is a situation where a player may have to add a few things to his resume to earn his shot at playing Division I football. And for League City (TX) wide receiver Byron Jones, that may be the case. And while he is steadily looking to get more looks from college coaches for his work on the field, it is his diligence in the classroom that could set him apart to earn a spot. "No, right now I don't have any football offers, but I have been getting some looks," Jones said. "Mainly, I have been hearing from schools about my grades." Most of the time when you hear that the notion is that there is a grade issue. But that is not the case here. Business has been handled in the classroom by the 5-foot-11, 160-pound Jones. Then too, he does well on the field too. In the 49-32 win over Houston Eisenhower last Thursday night, Jones was the leading receiver with nine catches for 235 yards and two scores. On the year, he is the team's leading receiver with 20 receptions and averaging 20 yards a catch. Getting their second win of the season, Jones feels like the team chemistry is great and everything is coming together at the right time, as they begin district play this upcoming week. Through all of this, he will also work to get to check out some campuses as well. One in particular. "Colorado is sending me a lot of things and I'm getting some things from Oregon. Colorado sent me some information so I'm looking to get my family together and check out a game and see the campus."
