Richard Hayes is one of the most underrated prospects in North Carolina. The Dudley signal-caller has quietly been having a great season.
“So far, we are 2-3,” said Hayes. “We have had a pretty tough pre-conference schedule – Northern (Guilford), Hillside, Ragsdale, and Southern Durham.”
Through those five games, Hayes has thrown for 551 yards, rushed for 841, and accounted for 16 total touchdowns. Not surprisingly, college coaching staffs have taken notice.
“I have an offer from Navy,” he said. “I’m also hearing from Wofford, Air Force, Army, and Indiana. Navy is recruiting me the hardest right now, and Army is starting to send a lot of mail. I think Army or Wofford will be the next school to offer.”
Hayes is looking forward to taking some visits.
“I’m going to take unofficial visits to see games at Wofford, Navy, Indiana, and Army,” Hayes said. “I’m visiting Navy on September 28, Indiana on October 13 when they play Ohio State, and still deciding about the others.”
The 6-foot-1, 180 pound Hayes has an idea of when he would like to make his college decision.
“I’d like to make my decision later on in the year, before we go into the playoffs,” he said. “I’m just looking for a school that has the major that I want to go into, which is Biological Science. I’m also looking for a place with a good campus lifestyle. As far as football, I want to go to a school that plays hard-nosed football and plays to win.”
Dudley takes on Southeast Guilford Friday.
