The Mission Viejo (Calif.) Diablos solidified their sixth win in a so-far undefeated season on Friday with a blowout win against Redlands East Valley (Calif.) 52-21.
Junior running back Alex Suchesk and wide receiver Sean Modster contributed to the win by each scoring a pair of touchdowns, including a 35-yard rush for a touchdown in The Opening drive of the game by Suchesk.
The junior duo, who transferred from Santa Margarita (Calif.) to Mission Viejo at the beginning of this year, are showing no signs of regret in their decision.
“We feel great, we feel like we made the right decision. It was definitely a tough decision, but we’re feeling good,” said Suchesk.
“I agree,” pitched in Modster, “ I especially love our coaching staff. I have so much respect for them.”
That respect and assurance in their new team is translating onto the football field, and the junior offensive threats are excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
“We can only do our best, and see how far we go. We’re going to come out every game prepared, and we just got to do our best.” said Modster, whose performance Friday night included a 55 and 70-yard pass reception for touchdowns.
“We’re just trying to prepare for the playoffs, trying to make it. Prepare for everyone in league, and for the big games we got coming ahead of us.” said Suchesk.
Although the two still have senior year to look forward to, they are already setting their eyes on the future. So far neither have received any official offers, but Suchesk has been in communication with a few schools.
“I’ve had no offers yet, just a couple waivers and questionnaires and stuff to sign. I’ve filled out some for Oregon, Boise State, Tulane, Utah, and BYU.” Suchesk said.
As far as where they would like to visit and what school they were interested in, the two almost simultaneously said Oregon.
“Modster and I have been playing together since the seventh grade, and we both love Oregon. If we could end up playing together at the same school that would be awesome.” Suchesk said.
The Diablos, ranked the number-three team in California by FOX Sports Next, will face San Clemente (Calif.) next Friday.
Modster and Suchesk, who have scored a combined 14 touchdowns in the last five games, hope to continue to contribute to their new team throughout the rest of the season.
“Everything about playing for Mission Viejo is awesome, we’re excited to continue to help our team.” Modster said.
