Servite (2-3) @ No. 4 Santa Margarita (5-0)
10/5 7PM PST
Two teams with question marks at quarterback, Servite because of lack of
production and Santa Margarita due to the injury of Nebraska commitment Johnny Stanton. Santa Margarita still has plenty of D1 talent on offense including
Washington State commitment River Cracraft at receiver, top running back Ryan Wolpin, and two senior offensive linemen in Washington commitment Dane Crane at
center and tackle Riley Sorenson.
Servite still has talent on offense including running backs Andrew Moore ('14)
and Utah commitment Charlie Etiaki. Junior Butch Pauu is better served playing
receiver and defense than quarterback. He's headed to BYU after next
Prediction: Santa Margarita had two weeks to get ready for life without
Southern Section MVP Johnny Stanton. The Eagles are still loaded with talent and
should handle Servite in the Trinity League opener for both squads.
No. 13 Upland (5-0) @ No. 14 Rancho Cucamonga (4-1)
10/5 7PM PST
The battle in the Inland Empire is arguably the best matchup of the week.
Upland features demolition man Joe Mathis at defensive end, and he's considering
a host of schools including Alabama, Michigan, Washington, and UCLA among
This game features enough D1 defensive backs to fill a college roster.
Cornerback Delvin Batiste of Upland is committed to San Diego State, and his
teammate James Johnson lines up at safety and is entertaining offers from
Arizona, Arizona State, and Oregon State. Tahaan Goodman and Chris Hawkins are
members of the Scout 300 and play safety and cornerback respectively for Rancho
Cucamonga. Goodman has his pick of schools, and Hawkins has already chosen USC.
Prediction: This one is a pick 'em. Rancho has the home field advantage, but
I like Upland's senior quarterback Nate Romine to be the difference as the
Highlanders come away with a win.
Notre Dame (4-2) @ No. 11 Bishop Alemany (5-1)
10/5 7PM PST
Notre Dame is coming off of a tough loss to Chaminade last week on the
Prepzone. Running back Khalfani Muhammad is the headliner for the Knights. He
has already taken an official visit to Notre Dame (9/21) and is scheduled to
visit Washington (10/12). Quarterback Kelly Hilinski recently picked up an offer
from Colorado. Blocking for Muhammad and Hilinski is Utah commitment Leroy Tanoai.
Alemany features one of the top playmakers in the country in USC commitment
Steven Mitchell. Mitchell is nearly untouchable in the open field. Defensive
back Devin Ross also suits up for the Warriors. He is a Colorado
Prediction: Mitchell makes some big plays and Alemany keeps Muhammad
contained as the Warriors move to 6-1 on the season.
Loyola (6-0) @ No. 15 Crespi (6-0)
10/5 7PM PST
Loyola enters the game with a perfect record after its 45-0 shellacking by
St. John Bosco was wiped off the record books because of a forfeit. The Cubs
remain a dangerous team led by playmaker Cameron Walker who sees time on both
sides of the ball. Walker has offers from Cal, Boise State, Washington,
Stanford, and Wisconsin.
When Walker is on offense, he'll be on the lookout for hard hitting safety Tyler Foreman. Foreman is built like a linebacker, and he hits like one as well. He is
considering UCLA, Cal, Arizona, Arizona State, and Washington. Foreman has
company on the Celts defense in the form of linebacker Ray Davison. Davison
looks to be choosing between Boise State and Iowa State.
Prediction: Crespi has been beating the daylights out of teams this year.
Loyola should be a step up in competition to get a feel for just how good Crespi
is. Crespi was 7-0 last year before losing three straight including a
heartbreaker to Loyola that ended their season. I like Crespi to get a little
revenge this year and move to 7-0 and giving Loyola its first official loss.
