A sleeper prospect from Pinellas County in Florida is St. Petersburg Northeast athlete Auggie Sanchez. He plays a variety of positions for the Vikings like defensive end, linebacker, tight end, wide receiver and even wildcat quarterback.

“We mainly moved him to middle linebacker this season,” said Mike Jalazo, Northeast’s coach. “Teams wanted to see him play this position. Last season he was mainly a defensive end for us. This kid is physical and can run sideline to sideline. He can also come off the edge.”

According to Jalazo, Sanchez has scholarship offers from South Alabama, Tulane and UMass while many bigger D1 schools wanted to see him play linebacker this year.

“He also has a lot of scholarship offers from 1-AA teams,” Jalazo said.

For the 6-foot-2 and 225-pound Sanchez, he hopes he put enough on film to show the bigger schools.

“I was a little concerned about the transition but it went well,” Sanchez said. “It’s a lot different playing middle linebacker compared to defensive end. You have to read and react. I have missed a few plays out there but I think I have played well. I hope I have put enough on tape. That would be nice.”

Sanchez has an older brother [Armondo] that played for the Bulls. South Florida, along with UCF and Duke, are a trio of college programs also showing interest.

“I would love a chance to play at USF,” Sanchez said. “I like the staff and I like coach [Skip] Holtz. Right now I am just waiting. I am waiting to see what happens and waiting on my official visits.”

Below are some highlights showcasing Sanchez’s versatility.
