FSWest's Prepzone Preview - Week 7

No. 2 Mission Viejo (6-0) @ San Clemente (4-3)

This is the South Coast League opener for Mission Viejo who has cruised through its early schedule without breaking much of a sweat. San Clemente has come back to the pack this year after losing so much talent from last year's squad, but they're still a quality opponent.

Mission Viejo's big name is still USC commitment Max Redfield. Redfield plays receiver and safety for the Diablos and is capable of making game changing plays on either side of the ball. UCLA commitment Erik Bunte joined the flood of Orange County players to transfer to Mission Viejo this year, and this will be our first look at the big offensive tackle in his new digs. Quarterback Ian Fieber and running back Alex Suchesk are two more transfers who have made a big impact for Mission Viejo. The will likely be college prospects in the Class of 2014.

San Clemente has lost three in a row after getting off to a 4-0 start. Offensive tackle Sean Harlow is one of the few remaining impact players from the 2011 squad. He is committed to the Washington Huskies.

Prediction: This was the game of the year in the South Coast League last year as Mission Viejo jumped out to a huge lead before hanging on for dear life as Travis Wilson (Utah) and San Clemente staged a furious comeback attempt. Mission Viejo is better than they were last year, and San Clemente is worse. Mission Viejo wins comfortably.

No. 13 Crespi (7-0) @ Notre Dame (4-3)

Crespi made its debut on Prepzone last week with an impressive 20-7 win over Loyola. Notre Dame has been on the Prepzone three times... all of them hard fought losses.

Crespi's top college prospect is safety Tyler Foreman who appears to be choosing between Oklahoma and UCLA. Foreman will get challenged more against Notre Dame's passing offense than he was against Loyola's ground game. Linebacker Ray Davison lines up at linebacker and has a Top 2 schools of Boise State and Iowa State. Safety Brandon Arnold has a host of offers and should choose between Cal and Michigan State.

Notre Dame has a home run threat at running back in track star Khalfani Muhammad. Muhammad ran like a different back last week against Alemany rushing for over 200 yards and four touchdowns. Muhammad showed instincts and balance that had been lacking in earlier Prepzone games and appears to be growing into a football player, rather than just a track guy playing football. Quarterback Kelly Hilinski also has shown improvement avoiding the rush and keeping his eyes downfield.

Prediction: Notre Dame has played three of our best games on the Prepzone in losses to Serra, Chaminade, and Alemany. Crespi is going to make it four losses in a row on Prepzone for the Knights, but expect it to be exciting.

Carter (6-0) @ Rialto (3-3)

Carter features one of the nation's best defensive tackles in UCLA commitment Kenneth Clark. At 6'2/295 Clark took some reps playing middle linebacker at 7v7s last summer, and he was athletic enough to be comfortable there. He's more than Rialto will be able to handle.

Prediction: Carter and Rialto or only separated by seven miles, but the difference in scores will be much greater than seven as Carter remains unbeaten.

St. Francis (3-3) @ Harvard-Westlake (5-1)

Harvard-Westlake has reeled off five wins in a row after losing its opener to Loyola. St. Francis has three losses by an average of four points.

Harvard-Westlake is led by Vanderbilt commitment Chad Kanoff at quarterback. Kanoff is a heady, accurate passer who runs the show from the line of scrimmage. Helping to clear the way for him is offensive lineman Thomas Oser who has offers from the likes of Colorado, Oregon, and Vanderbilt among others.

St. Francis has a good quarterback in its own right in senior Jared Lebowitz. Lebowitz is averaging over 250 yards per game and has an impressive 14-3 TD to INT ratio.

Prediction: St. Francis has battled hard before losing three close games. Make it four this week as Harvard-Westlake pulls out a close victory to move to 6-1.
