Naim Mustafaa (6'4/235) of Alpharetta High School in Alpharetta, Ga. is a
4-Star prospect who is committed to play college football for the Georgia
Bulldogs.
Mustafaa lines up at defensive end in Alpharetta's 3-4 defense. He has a quick
first step, and much more subtle but no less important, is a look at how quick
his hands are. Mustafaa wins the battle of first contact nearly every snap,
because he is able to control the encounter with an offensive lineman as he's
the first to get his hands on him. Whether its to swim past his blocker or use a
quick push-pull move to get around him, Mustafaa has no trouble beating a
blocker one on one.
As a 3-4 end though, Mustafaa doesn't get the chance to take on the offensive
tackle in space too often. In order to remain a 3-4 defensive end, he'll need to
get stronger against the drive blocks he'll face as he tends to cede ground
against a double team. When I saw his listed 235 pounds I was less surprised he
had trouble controlling a double team. He has the frame to easily play in the
270 range where he'll hold up against the run better.
On pursuit plays or drop back plays from the quarterback Mustafaa lives in the
backfield. He's a constant disruption and his quickness and athleticism shine
through.
Here is a look at him in action in his latest game against North Forsyth
in which he helped his team win 55-2. For an HD/IPad friendly version, please click
