East Mississippi Community College wide receiver Corey Smith is in second year removed from Akron Buchtel High School, and the time is coming close for his college choice. Is Ohio State back in the picture for Smith?

Corey Smith was a top recruit in Ohio two years ago when he played for Akron Buchtel, but he has spent the past two seasons playing football for Grand Rapids (MI) and East Mississippi Community College, where he is presently.

Smith, 6-foot, 185-pounds, has done everything required to be eligible to play Division-I football next season, and his decision is only months away.

He is expected to sign with the school of his choice next February, and report in June of 2013. Smith holds several top offers, but recently his former home state school stepped up their interest.

"I spoke with Ohio State last night, and they told me they want me badly," Smith stated. "I talked with (wide receivers coach) Zach Smith, and he said my film was excellent. They received my transcript, and told me I will be accepted into school. That offer meant a lot to me, to be honest."

"Ohio State is a great program, with a great coaching staff, plus it's home," he added. "I've known Coach Smith from when he tried to recruit me out of high school, and he's cool. He said he only has two wide receivers he can count on right now, and he said there would be playing time available next year."

Smith intends to take an official visit to Ohio State, but he is unsure of when that might take place.

"They want me to visit soon, as in the next few weeks, but I'm thinking I might wait until January," he explained. "We will get a date worked out real soon, so I'm not sure when that will take place. The thought of possibly coming home is cool, and I'm comfortable with that. I just want to find the best place for me."

Several other top programs are in the running for this playmaker, who discussed his options.

"I would say the top schools are Mississippi State, Tennessee, Ohio State and Hawaii, but there might be a few others," Smith admitted. "I've done everything I needed to do academically, and I'm a lot better player than I was in high school."

"I'm faster, and I've gained 15-pounds of muscle," he continued. "My plan is to sign in February, but I might announce my choice before National Signing Day. I will be reporting to my school after May of next year. I will have three years of which I will be eligible to play two, so I could take a redshirt year if I need to."
