Curtis Burston is having a huge junior season. The Middle Creek High (Apex, N.C.) junior wide receiver is a big reason for his team’s 8-1 record.

Middle Creek High School is having a great season. The Mustangs have won five in a row and appear poised for a deep playoff run. One of the main reasons for their success has been the play of junior wide receiver Curtis Burston.

“The season is going pretty good,” said Burston. “Everything is going exactly like we want it. Everyone is doing their part and making plays for us.”

Despite the success, Burston is not satisfied.

“I performed well, but not up to my expectations,” said the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Burston. “There were games that I could have had more yards. But, the last game I had 208 yards and two touchdowns.”

Burston knows what he does well on the football field.

“I can run the screens, and just use my speed to get through and follow my blocks,” he said. “We throw the ball deep a lot. My favorite route is the post – I have a lot of touchdowns on those. I also like the five-yard hitch and the go route.”

On the recruiting front Burston is waiting for his first offer, but interest is increasing in the wide receiver.

“I’m getting leaders from Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, ECU, and Duke,” Burston said.

“I’ve been up to Duke a couple of times and they are interested in me. I’ll probably go up to Wake Forest, too. I would say Duke is the closest to offering. I don’t have any favorites. I’m just going to be patient and see what happens.”

While Burston said he did not grow up a fan of a particular school, there is one that he has followed recently.

“I liked South Carolina for a little while,” he said. “I still watch them play every Saturday.”

With Middle Creek playing so well, Burston is hoping to finish the season strong.

“I just want to get a state championship and for everyone to play their heart out,” said Burston. “For me, I just want to keep doing what I’m doing and play to the best of my ability.”

Burston has over 800 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns this season. Middle Creek plays Holly Springs on Friday.
