UCLA Commit Visits Cougs
Fallbrook (Calif.) offensive lineman Sean Dowling committed to UCLA over the summer, but made the trek north to Pullman last weekend on an official visit to Washington State. "The weekend was great. It was great to be able to meet Coach [Mike] Leach, finally, and tour the facilities. They have a lot of big players coming up," he said. Though only in Pullman for a short time, Dowling had a packed few days. "I got there Saturday afternoon and went straight to the game. After the game I met up with my host, [center] Elliott Bosch, and spent some time with him. We had brunch with all of the coaches on Sunday morning and then toured the facilities all day. We had dinner, and then I left the next morning," he said. Dowling was one of the first prospects to join the Bruins' 2013 class, but enjoyed the opportunity to talk with Bosch, who didn't hide his enthusiasm about the 6-foot-6, 265-pound tackle potentially playing college ball for the Cougs. "He just told me how he wanted me to play for the Cougars and that he knows that I could come in and play early, that I'm a competitor. I also have the credits to graduate early, so wherever I go, I could be there for spring ball," he said. Another person who Dowling was able to spend time with was Washington State offensive line coach Clay McGuire. "I spoke one on one with him for most of the visit. He's a really good coach and I like him a lot. We talked about how I'd definitely have the opportunity to play early. Also, Coach Leach gets many linemen into the NFL. The first thing NFL scouts ask about offensive linemen is if they can pass protect and with that offense, pretty much all they do is pass protect," he said. For Dowling, one of the highlights was the chance to meet the head coach in person. "He is a really, really good coach. It was hard to grasp the fact that I was talking to one of the most iconic coaches in college football," he said. Though he enjoyed his time with the Cougars, Dowling did reiterate his commitment to the Bruins' program. "I had a great visit, but I'm still strong to UCLA," he said.
