Jones Excels On and Off the Field

Westland John Glenn (Mich.) wide receiver Da'Mario Jones had a big senior year, is receiving more and more big college interest every day, and as his coach says, any of those schools would be lucky to have him.

College coaches may have to start looking at Westland John Glenn earlier in the year.

Over the last few years, the school has put out major Division-1 talent which took a little longer to get on the radar than normal. Both Keshawn Martin and Jeremy Langford ended up at Michigan State, but via offers which came later in the process.

This year, head coach Tim Hardin has another one in 6'2, 195-lb wide receiver Da'Mario Jones, who had an outstanding senior season. Jones has offers from most of the Mid-American Conference, but like his predecessors, the Big Ten has now come calling.

"I definitely think he's a Big Ten guy," Coach Hardin said. "I think he's a Division-1 top recruit. We have had some Big Ten guys in the past and there's no doubt in my mind that he's right there with those guys."

Jones finished his John Glenn career with one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown in a win over Ann Arbor Huron on Friday night. He has scored touchdowns as a return man, running back, wide receiver and a safety this year.

"That's the whole thing is just trying to get the ball in his hands as many times as we can."

Outside of his physical talents, Hardin says that, as a person, Jones is a kid that any college coach would be lucky to have in their locker room.

"You know, you hear these cliches all the time, but it is the absolute truth that he is an outstanding young man. After every game, he comes up and shakes the coaches hands, he's a great student, teachers like him. He's a great leader in our school. He does everything right."

Jones visited Michigan over the weekend, and schools like Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and others are still in touch, and now that the season is over and his film is making the rounds, Hardin's phone should continue to be constantly ringing.

"More and more every day. He's had a lot of interest for quite awhile now, but every day, someone new seems to call, so we'll see how it goes."
