Focus 2016: Will Eason
Will Eason was second on the team in interceptions with three. His picks came in consecutive weeks late during the regular season and in the playoff opener vs. Fayetteville Christian. "It all started in practice, guarding (junior) Caleb Hines and (senior) Demitri Allison," Eason said. "Guarding them has made me a better corner." Eason described the interception against Fayetteville Christian. "Coach said to press them in coverage and I hit a nice jam on the receiver," he recalled. "They were trying to run a slant and the quarterback overthrew the route. I returned the pick for 20 yards." SouthLake Christian could be on its way to national prominence. The small school is loaded with talented freshmen, including RB Robert Washington (Mississippi State, Ole Miss offer) and WR Conner O'Donnell. "It's been good at SouthLake," Eason said. "A lot of us are motivated to succeed because the school wasn't always winning games. Four years ago, we were 2-8. "Most of us weren't at the school back then, but we've heard what the 'old SouthLake' was like. We want to play hard, play as a family, and put it on the line so the school continues to succeed in football." Eason praised his head coach, Geoff O'Donnell (father of Conner). "Coach takes pride in what he does," the freshman proudly stated. Eason has interest in Oregon, Ohio, South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. He collected 29 tackles (20 solo) this year to accompany six receptions for 152 yards (three TDs) and 270 yards rushing with three more scores. The 5-8, 150-pounder averaged 25-plus yards per catch and 14.2 yards per carry. SouthLake fell to Victory Christian in the state finals, 26-21. Eason, along with O'Donnell and Washington, was a member of Team USA (15-and-under).
