Taijuan Thomas talks about Stanford
Taijuan Thomas says Stanford steadily recruited him over the past two years. "Stanford offered me after my sophomore season," Thomas said. "They've been after me pretty hard. It came down to them or Northwestern and both are pretty good athletically in all sports, and both are great in academics. I wanted to pick the school that could offer the most help after football. "I committed during the middle of last week. I think it was Tuesday. I got accepted to Stanford two days before I committed. When I learned that I had been accepted, I talked to my mom and then made my decision. That acceptance was what I'd been waiting on." Thomas talked about making the phone call to the Stanford staff. "I called Coach Shaw and told him I was committing," the senior said. "He seemed pretty excited. I was recruited by Coach (Lance) Andersen. I visited Stanford and Northwestern during the summer. "Stanford has one of the best campuses I've seen weather-wise and scenery-wise. I'm going to take my official in December or January. I ended up with 16 offers. Illinois jumped in late." Tomorrow night, Thomas tries to extend his prep football career another week in a second-round playoff game vs. a familiar face: district rival Ruston. Ouachita outlasted Ruston in week six, 48-33. "We have to execute our game-plan and put it all on the line," Thomas said. "Oh, yes. We still remember last year's second round loss to Carencro. I want to end things big my senior year and not go out in the second round like we've done the past few years." Thomas has been equally effective running and catching the football for the Lions. He has 10 touchdowns and is closing in on 1,000 combined rushing and receiving yards. Thomas is the No. 1 student in his class with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
