I will be the first to admit that I don’t get to follow the Ivy League college football programs all that closely. But I can tell you that Yale has stolen one from the Sunshine State in wide receiver Myles Gaines from Tallahassee Lincoln.
Gaines, 5-foot-10 and 170-pounds, plays in the slot on a very talented Lincoln squad. Just in the wide receiver corps alone you have Reggie Davis (committed to Georgia), Taj Williams (uncommitted but has a slew of BCS offers) and the super talented sophomore in Joe Burt.
Well, in a loss to Godby last week it was Gaines who stole the offensive show for the Trojans. He was their big play guy. This kid has terrific ball skills, athleticism and quickness. He runs well and shows excellent concentration in catching the football.
“Myles is a fantastic all-around player,” said Yusuf Shakir, Lincoln’s coach. “He gets open and catches the football. He can run and he can block. I am stunned that schools around here overlooked him.”
Well, that’s Yale’s gain then. Gaines camped there over the summer and also saw Princeton and Harvard but he decided on the Bulldogs.
Below are some highlights of Gaines from Lincoln vs Godby last Thursday.
