Prospect: Peyton Barber
Hometown: Alpharetta, Ga.
High School: Milton
Position: Running Back
Ranking on Scout: No. 58 RB
Recruiting Notes: Committed to Ole Miss and he is a strong Rebel commitment. He was recently offered by Florida State. He could take a few visits, but at this time, he is strong to Ole Miss.
The game Scout watched Milton vs. South Gwinnett in the first round of the playoffs.
Scouting Report: Barber really made some big plays in this game when he had to. Milton lost the game 27-20, but they made a big run in the second half, and it had a lot to do with Barber.
He finished the game with 127 yards rushing and around 50 yards receiving. Over 90 of those yards on the ground came in the second half.
Barber missed a lot of last season with an ankle injury, but he is healthy this year, and he showed what type of back he really is Friday night.
He is a very strong back who runs with autority and good pad level. He has very good balance and can bounce off would be tacklers to get extra yards. He has fairly quick feet too and moves well in tight space when he gets the ball. All of those things were on display in this contest.
His agility is solid, but he is more of a north-south back than one looking to make guys miss. He is not a burner, but he does know how to get the football, and attack the defense with speed. He does not hesitate when he gets the ball and dance around in the backfield. His speed is solid, but not a real strength of his.
One of the things that stood out as much as anything in this game was his hands and his ability to catch the football. He looks like a very natural pass-catcher out of the backfield. He would even line up at wideout sometimes and he caught each ball thrown his way. He coud be a real weapon out of the backfield on the next level.
Overall, Barber was impressive in this game and he showed why he has the offers that he has. He is likely going to make a move up in the ranking on Scout and he should be very productive on the next level. He is not going to outrun defenders, but he can run through them, he can give his quarterback a true outlet out of the backfield, and he will get a lot of yards after initial contact.
Peyton Barber's career at Milton came to an end Friday night with a loss to South Gwinnett in the playoffs, but his performance impressed Scout.
