Reed was a long-time North Carolina commitment but opened things back
up last month. He was waiting to see if Ole Miss was going to solidify its scholarship offer. The good news came his way.
"They offered me last week," Reed said. "They liked my film a lot. They loved it. They said I can win some one-on-one matchups for them and help build them a dynasty."
What did the Ole Miss coaching staff say to Reed when they solidified their offer?
"Coach (Hugh) Freeze called me Monday. He told me they were real excited about the possibility of me joining their team. I couldn't really hear what all was said because it was so noisy around me. My teammates knew that I'd been waiting on them to offer so when his name came up on my caller ID everyone got excited around me. He was just basically telling me how much he liked my film. We set up a visit in January (20th). They're supposed to come by my school today to come talk to me again."
Now that Reed got his offer solidified from Ole Miss, what are his thoughts?
"I need to think about it some more. It's really not hit me yet. I need to talk it over with my mother a little bit more. I like the possibilities at Ole Miss and so does my mother. I could make a decision today or tomorrow. You never know."
What will be the determining factors in his decision?
"I want to see how my family feels about it. My mom hasn't seen me play but once since I've been down here in Mississippi so I want to see how she feels. I want to support my family too. I want to see where it's best for me and my family. I want to bring my mother and brother down to Ole Miss so they can see what it's all about. I want to see if they want me to be a Rebel too. I just want to see if it's doable for them to come and see me play some more."
Is the distance issue becoming more and more of a factor?
"It is but it goes both ways. If they're able to come see me play then it's all good. I want to see if I have a living situation where there's room for them to stay with me when they come down to see me play. I got a lot of that straight with the Ole Miss coaches when we last spoke. We're going to go over that some more when they come see me today."
Who else is in the picture?
"Florida, North Carolina and Mississippi State."
Reed returned to North Carolina during the Thanksgiving break and stopped by the UNC campus last Saturday.
"I just wanted to let them know that although I de-committed I hadn't scratched them off of my list. I'm still keeping all of my options open right now."
The distance factor points in the Tar Heels favor.
"My family is a little bit closer to me over there. That's what stands out about UNC to me. It's a good academic school too."
What did North Carolina sell to Jarran during the visit?
"Coach (Deke) Adams told me to come back closer to home so my family can see me play. He said I'd come in and start at North Carolina from the day I walked in and would be the leader for his defense. I just keep going back and forth between Ole Miss and North Carolina. I'm pretty confused right now."
