Morrissey Has First BCS Offer
Illinois has put an emphasis on in-state recruiting under Tim Beckman and they are continuing to extend offers towards the top young talents in the state, with Lincolnshire Stevenson's 6'3, 180-lb junior safety Matt Morrissey being the latest. "It was very exciting," he said of the offer. "This was my second offer, Toledo was the first." Morrissey is a Michigan State legacy, as his father was a Spartan, and he is hearing from them as well as other schools like Wisconsin, Michigan, and others. He is also hearing from Northwestern, and the fact that the latest offer is from within state lines helps the Illini cause. "It is great that Illinois is close to home, and I have always dreamed of playing college football," he explained. Part of a talented Stevenson team, Morrissey and his teammates have been down to Champaign a couple times and has had good trips down there. "I have visited Illinois twice and both visits were great. The coaches are very personable and the school atmosphere is awesome." This season, Morrissey had 87 tackles (four for loss), four interceptions (one for a touchdown) and five pass breakups. He also had three receiving touchdowns.
