received offers from Duke, N.C. State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, but decided ECU was the place for him.
"My commitment to ECU is very solid. I am going to be an early enrollee," he said.
Mumford said ECU has him listed as an athlete, but plans to use him as a middle linebacker.
He took his official visit on October 13 when the Pirates played Memphis.
"That really sealed the deal for me. I really like it there. I am close to a lot of people in the area and had fun," he said.
Mumford said North Carolina and Wake Forest are still recruiting him.
This week the three-star middle linebacker is in Spartanburg, S.C., to prepare for the 2012 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
"The talent out here is phenomenal, everyone has put in a lot of work and it has really showed," said Mumford.
Mumford said he is ready to see how he stacks up with the other talent from North and South Carolina.
The 76th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas will be played on Saturday, December 15.
