Darious Cummings may have started his college career in Garnet and Gold, but he'll end it in Orange…
Cummings Family Ready for UF
Darious Cummings signed and faxed his letter of intent to the University of Florida moments ago starting his collegiate career with the Gator Nation. Cummings playing career started in Titusville (FL) Astronaut high school moved to Florida State then East Mississippi and now finally the University of Florida. Cummings was being recruited by Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Kentucky and had a visit from Nick Saban and Kirby Smart early last week to try and convince him to take an official visit to Alabama. When you are 6'3 and 300-pounds, bench 405, squat 500 and clean 375 it's no wonder the top programs in the country are after your services. It has been a well traveled road for the younger Cummings but one well worth it. "As a man I learned allot about myself, I've also matured as a person, and secondly as a football player I've become a student to the game, just learning as much as I can about football and my position as I can. My support staff has been great, I love my family and friends that have stuck beside me through thick and thin, they have also been here to give me advice when I need it and just positive encouragement to push me to keep going and to help me reach my max potential. I've learned to listen and take everything in, and for a top recruit, I would say just know that this is your future nobody else's, and you have to be at that school for the next 4-5 years, and make sure that this will benefit you on and off the field. Also dont be in a hurry to make your decision because not everybody gets a second chance like I do." Current Gator defensive tackle Damien Jacobs and future Gator defensive tackle Darious Cummings will always share a special football bond. Both players visited Florida State together for official visits, committed to play for the Seminoles, left Florida State and now both play for the Gators and will room together. Some would have you believe one of the reasons both players picked the Gators was so they could play the Noles. " Well Damien and I also said we would play with each other, we've been saying that since we knew each other so I do find it ironic that now we are about to play together. I also feel that things happen for reason and I felt this did too." As for playing Florida State and his goals after his college days are done. "This is going to be just another game for Dam and I, we aren't making this game any more special than all the others, we are going to go out and play ball just as we do every other Saturday but I will say we will be licking our chops once we get a shot at the QB. Of course I have my own personal goals, but I want my team to win so I'll do whatever I have to do to better myself to help my team win, and of course I see myself in the NFL that has been a dream of mine for quite some time." Cummings talked about how he would defend himself. " Honestly if I was an OL I wouldn't want to defend any DL because you never know what a DL is thinking about. I would play it safe when trying to block me. I feel my strength is my speed off the ball and my pad level, and I'd like to improve on my knowledge of the game a little more." Every child needs a strong foundation to have a chance to be successful in life. For Darious it all starts with his mother and father. Scout.com had a chance to catch up with the proud parents to talk a little football. Mr. & Mrs. Cummings: "We are very proud of Darious and all the effort that he has put in, to accomplish the goals that he had set for himself. We feel that Florida is a great fit for him and has all the necessary tools for him to obtain his next set of goals which he has set for himself. We believe that all things work together for the good of those that love the lord and there is a reason that his journey has taken the path that it did. This is a new experience for us and we are excited for Darious to have this opportunity to perform at this level of competition." Mrs. Cummings: "My favorite game was his senior year playing against Bishop Moore High School. Darious was all over the place, playing like he had to get a scholarship and it was his last chance. He was tackling, jumping and blocking passes and taking out the quarter back every chance he got. He was selected Player of the game." Mr. Cummings: "My most memorable game was the Cocoa game of Darious junior year when he forced a fumble, recovered it and the next series stopped Cocoa from scoring the winning drive. He pointed up to the sky and when asked what was that for? He said to me that Great Grandma told me she would always be with me and always play hard and leave it on the field." The Florida Gators are a better team with the Cummings family on board.
