James Quick caught three balls for 71 yards and the game-winning touchdown with just under four minutes to play to seal the win for the East squad.
“The whole day was very special,” Quick said. “From waking up early, going through the plays and focusing in on the game plan and having the opportunity to play against all these great players, it was just a great experience for me.
“It means a lot and it’s an honor to win the MVP,” Quick said. “I came out here to play ball and show everyone what I could do, I was never thinking about winning the MVP. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to receive that honor, but I don’t think anyone comes in here thinking you’re going to win MVP. I just wanted to come in and compete my hardest for my teammates and glad we got the win.”
Quick said it wasn’t just the game that was special, the whole week was a great experience for him.
“I enjoyed talking with the Army guys a lot and I learned a lot from them,” Quick said. “They told me to never take what you have for granted and I took that to heart. I really enjoyed hanging out with my teammates and meeting some new guys. The game was obviously a big highlight too so overall, this was just a great experience.”
As for his commitment to Louisville, Quick said he finalized the decision late last week.
“I actually finalized it on Thursday,” Quick said. “I talked to my mom and she said I have two great choices, Louisville and Ohio State, and I can’t go wrong either way. It came down to whether I wanted to stay home or go away. I’m a big family man and I wanted them to be able to come and see me play all my games and that was the biggest factor in this.
“I really just followed my heart. Ohio State is a great program and they’re going to do great things. I just wanted to stay home and plus Louisville is a rising program and really turning things around. I’m excited to get out there and help the team win another BCS Bowl. The recruiting process was pretty fun for me but also a little stressful and it definitely feels good to make my commitment, it’s like a big weight off my chest.”
