Spelman a Volunteer

Hilliard Bradley (Ohio) long snapper Brad Spelman committed to a preferred walk-on at Tennessee over the weekend and talks about his decision here.

Hilliard Bradley's Brad Spelman played linebacker and tight end during his time there, but it was his skill and accuracy as a long snapper which earned him an SEC opportunity.

The University of Tennessee offered the 6'2, 210-lb Spelman a preferred walk-on spot this Winter, and he did not take long to accept it, making his intentions official on Sunday.

"I knew the coaches from Cincinnati when I went down to camp in the summer and that's how our relationship started," he explained.

Ultimately, that relationship with Butch Jones and his staff was important, but there were also many other attractive parts of the school which lead him to the decision.

"With the combination of the academics, coaches, facilities and fan base, it is just a once in a lifetime opportunity."

Now that the choice is made, Spelman can look forward to achieving his goal of earning a starting spot and a scholarship in the process.

"The best person plays and that's how it was addressed. The best man who wins the job plays and for me, it would be a scholarship."
