Will Likely is a talented defensive back prospect from Glades Central High and Scout caught up with…
Solid Florida Trio for Maryland
Maryland recruited a handful of players from the state of Florida this year and three of them plan to ink with the Terps on Wednesday. Kingsley Opara is one of the top defensive line prospects in the greater Jacksonville area. At 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, the Mandarin High standout has a lot of experience playing defensive end. Especially for a player his size, he has quick feet and is generally a very good athlete. He runs well, he can change directions, and he can make a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage. He's a bit one-dimensional because of his size at defensive end (lacks top notch pass rushing skills) and that's why he's likely going to play tackle in college. He will still need to bulk up and add more strength to become a complete player inside. Still, he has the frame and a lot of the tools necessary to become successful. William Likely has been one of the state's most productive players the last two seasons. The Glades Central standout plays on offense, defense, and special teams. He was recruited to play defensive back. At 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds, he lacks ideal height and that prevented the Florida schools from actively recruiting him. After that, however, he has everything you look for. He's tough. He's physical. He will knock you in the dirt. He has ball skills. He can run. He can cover. All of it. He's also intensely competitive and comes from one of the state's premier prep programs. If he can overcome the size issue, Likely is going to be a steal for the Terps. Chandler Burkett committed to Maryland a few weeks ago. At 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, he's extremely athletic -- especially for his size. He was athletic enough to be playing middle linebacker some at Bozeman High this season. His primary position is at defensive end. He'll go into Maryland trying to become a pass rushing specialist. He's athletic and pretty explosive. It's a bit surprising that Florida State never actively recruited him. He's a good student, a good athlete, and brings a lot to the table as a pass-rushing prospect.
