"Southern Mississippi offered me last week," Brown said. "Ole Miss was the first school to offer me, and I think Mississippi State is getting
real close to offering me. I'm also hearing from Alabama, LSU, and La Monroe."
When did Ole Miss offer and what did the Rebels like about the 6' 4", 265-pound
defensive lineman?
"They offered me on National Signing Day. Coach (Matt) Luke called my coach
to let him know and then I gave him a call back. They wanted to be the first school
to offer me a scholarship, and they wanted my parents to know how they felt
so we all got on a three-way call. We just talked about the situation over there
at Ole Miss. They're going to be going after a bunch of defensive linemen in
their recruiting class this year, and they told me I was one of their top prospects.
Coach (Hugh) Freeze told me that he wants me and my family to come over there
for a junior day. I will be over there in April for their elite junior day."
Has the 2012 All-State selection visited Ole Miss before?
"Yes, sir. The first time I went over there was the year before when they
played Alabama, and then I came back this year for the Egg Bowl. It's a nice
school. I like their coaches a lot, especially coach (Chris) Kiffin and coach (Dave)
Wommack. We've built a real good relationship. It's just a nice school with
some nice people over there."
How did the USM offer go down?
"They got their head coach on the phone, and he told me that I had a scholarship
offer. He told me to stay on top of my grades, and he wants me to come down
to their junior day this month so I'm going."
Brown took a non-football visit down to Southern Miss with a family member.
"I haven't really visited any of their football facilities, but my aunt
went to school at USM, and she took me around their campus one day. I have been
talking to Coach Pollard a lot, and he just tells me to focus on my grades and
keep working hard and get faster and stronger. I really do not know a whole
lot about Southern (Miss) because I haven't toured their facilities yet or
met their coaches in person."
One school that Trey is familiar with is MSU as it is located within an hour's
drive from his house.
"I went to their junior day last month. I feel like they are real close to
offering me. They want me to be a Bulldog and come watch some of their practices
and spring game."
What stands out about the Dogs?
"I've been to a few of their games. I like their campus and weight room.
Their coaches are real nice too. I met some of their players when I went down
there too. I like MSU too. It's just real close to home."
When it does come decision time what will be the main factors?
"I'm looking to play for some great coaches and a nice college. I want
to stay somewhere close to home so my grandmother can come see all of my games.
She has been there through the thick and thin with me, and I just want to stay
close to her. I also want to go somewhere where they provide good academic tutoring.
I want to get my degree."
Brown collected 56 tackles and six sacks while manning the strong defensive end
position. Some see him growing into a defensive tackle but Brown
would like to stay at end.
"I think defensive end is my best position because I can get after the
passer, and I'm quick off of the ball. I'll play wherever they need me though,
but I think end is where I will play on the next level. I am a stand-up pass
rusher that can get to the quarterback. I'm strong (benches 335 pounds) and
fast enough to get the job done."
