McCarthy checking out schools
Posted Mar 21, 2013

Jimmy McCarthy, tackle from Fishers, Ind. (Hamilton Southeastern) expects his first offer may come this summer, and he talks about which schools are showing the most interest.

Tackle Jimmy McCarthy of Fishers (Ind.) Hamilton Southeastern is working towards picking up his first offer.

“I think I’m close to some offers, but I think schools want to see me at their camps this summer before they offer,” McCarthy said. “I’m starting to visit some places and get more comfortable. The schools I’m hearing from right now are Indiana, Ball State, Purdue, Boston College, and Illinois.”

At 6-foot-5, 260-pounds, McCarthy can play on both sides of the ball.

“I started on defense this year, but next season I’ll be playing more offense,” McCarthy said. “Schools are recruiting me mostly for defense right now. Most places are telling me they like how I’m versatile, and how much I hustle.”

McCarthy is visiting Indiana today [March 21], and this isn’t the first time he’s getting a look at the Hoosiers.

“I visited Indiana last month, and it was really nice,” McCarthy said. “I got a chance to speak with the coaches for longer than I thought. The coaching staff is really cool.”

McCarthy says he’s open to hearing from different schools right now, and should an offer come his way, he’s in no rush to make a decision.

“It will just depend on how I feel and where I’m comfortable,” McCarthy said.

So far, McCarthy has visited Ball State, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan State, and Purdue.
