A look at some of the top offensive prospects expected to be in Charlotte NFTC this Sunday.

Quarterbacks

It is no secret that there is not a lot of depth at the quarterback position in the Mid-Atlantic region this year. However, three of the top quarterbacks in the 2014 class – Davidson (NC) Day’s Will Grier, Youngstown (OH) Ursuline’s Chris Durkin and Charlotte (N.C.) West Mecklenburg’s Jalen McClendon – will be in attendance.

Grier, one of the top quarterbacks in the country, committed to Florida last December. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound four-star signal-caller threw for a mind-boggling 5,785 yards and 69 touchdowns last season.

Durkin will make the long trip down from Ohio. The four-star quarterback is closing in on double-digit scholarship offers. California, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State and Northwestern are just some of the schools that have offered the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Durkin.

McClendon is a quarterback with a big upside. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound prospect claims scholarship offers from East Carolina, North Carolina, South Carolina State, UNC-Charlotte and Wake Forest.

Other quarterbacks to watch include 2014 Ducan (S.C.) Byrnes’ Shuler Bentley, who holds offers from Coastal Carolina, Delaware and Old Dominion and 2015 Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb’s Tyler Queen, who is one of the South’s top sophomore quarterbacks.

Running Backs

This event will be loaded with talented running backs. The three top running backs in North Carolina – Charlotte Catholic’s Elijah Hood, Havelock’s Derrell Scott and Durham Hillside’s Donte Williams – will all be on hand. All are four-star prospects and have close to 20 scholarship offers.

Hood is powerful, downhill runner. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound running back named a top three of Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State after visiting all three schools in February. But after attending North Carolina’s junior day a few weeks ago, the Tar Heels have moved into the No. 2 spot behind Notre Dame.

Scott is dynamic, quick playmaker. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Havelock star previously had a top four of South Carolina, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Tennessee. But after receiving a bevy of offers over the last month, he has opened back up and claims no favorites.

Williams has a nice combination of speed and power. The Hillside playmaker currently has a top four of Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Georgia Tech.

Two other junior running backs to keep an eye on are Caleb Kinlaw out of Goose Creek (S.C.) and C.J. Fuller from Easley (S.C) (projected as a cornerback).

As far as underclassman, 2015 Wake Forest-Rolesville (N.C) speedster Bryce Love will be in attendance. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Love is one of the fastest players in the country and already has multiple offers. He will be one of the top running backs in his class.

Four of the Tar Heel State’s top freshman running backs will be in Charlotte – North Stanly’s Antonio Williams, Butler’s Benjamin Lemay, Forestview’s Moe Neal and SouthLake Christian’s Robert Washington (committed to Mississippi State). All four will likely be big-time prospects in the 2016 class.

Wide Receiver/Tight End

Wide receiver will be the deepest offensive group at the camp. Leading the way are 2014 four-star playmakers Trevion Thompson and Jamil Kamara. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Thompson is out of Durham (N.C.) Hillside and the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Kamara is from Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullvan Catholic. Each has close to 20 scholarship offers.

Three 2014 North Carolina three-star wide receivers will also be in attendance – Swansboro’s DeAndre Thompkins, Northside’s Josh Cabrera and Gray’s Creek’s Jefferie Gibson.

Three other three-star wide receivers will be in Charlotte — Aggadoria Bowers from Bamberg (S.C) Bamberg-Ehrhardt, Ryan Sousa from Orlando (FL) Lake Nona and Terry Googer from College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy.

Sleepers in the 2014 class to watch are Maurice Trowell from Southern Durham (N.C.), Jonathan Duhart from Midlothian (Va.) Manchester, Curtis Burston from Apex (N.C.) Middle Creek and Workpeh Kofa from Charlotte (N.C.) Independence.

The 2015 receiver class will be well represented. The two top sophomore wide receivers in North Carolina – Randleman’s Juval Mollette and Havelock’s Michael Bowman will compete on Sunday. Both already have multiple scholarship offers and should be national recruits.

Other underclassman receivers to watch include Tavin Richardson from Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes and TaQuon Marshall from Hamilton (Ga.) Harris County.

The top 2014 tight ends in attendance will be 6-foot-5, 214-pound Kalan Ritchie from Goose Creek (S.C.) and 6-foot-2, 225-pound Kevin Crosby from Bamberg (S.C) Bamberg-Ehrhardt (projected as a middle linebacker).

Offensive Line

Four-star Charlotte (N.C.) Providence star Bentley Spain will be the top offensive lineman at the event. The 6-foot-6, 295-pound offensive tackle is down to six schools – LSU, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina and Stanford.

One other 2014 prospect to watch is Christian Taylor from Lexington (S.C.) White Knoll. The 6-foot-5, 330-pound offensive tackle holds offers from North Carolina State and Coastal Carolina.

An underclassman to watch is sophomore T.J. Haney from Gaffney (S.C.). The 2015 6-foot-6, 315-pound offensive tackle is already attracting interest from several big-time college programs.
