Fred Warner is a very intriguing prospect with a nice upside to him. He's a talented pass rusher who played defensive end last season but will make the move to outside linebacker in college. At 6-2, 210 pounds, he has plenty of athleticism, moves very well in space and plays with a motor. He should fit in very well in the Cougars 3-4 scheme.
"I committed around 6:00 tonight," Warner said. "Man, I'm so excited, BYU is the perfect place for me. I'm LDS so growing up, BYU was always the school me and my family liked a lot. I had never visited there before but had a chance to check out this past weekend on an unofficial visit and loved it there.
"I talked to a lot of the players on the team and everyone made me feel so welcome. I love the coaching staff and the area. It's a beautiful campus there and I just felt so comfortable with everything. I had some questions but they answered everything I had and I'm just thrilled to have this decision out of the way."
Warner said he was tempted to commit on the visit but wanted to come home and talk about it with his parents first.
"My parents didn't make the visit, someone from my church took me," Warner said. "If they had been with me, I probably would have committed but I didn't want to do it without talking about it with them first. We discussed it on Monday and we all agreed it was a good idea so I decided today to pull the trigger.
"I called up Coach Mendenhall and he was super excited. He was yelling and screaming, it was pretty cool. I'm planning to go back there in June for Junior Day and I'll take my official visit there in the fall as well. There will be no other visits for me, I'm fully committed to BYU and won't be checking out any other schools. To have to this decision out of the way early is great for me, now I can just focus on football and school with no distractions so I'm very excited."
