McCain picks Virginia Tech

Kalen McCain committed to Virginia Tech on Sunday. The Durham (N.C.) Hillside safety talks about his decision to become a Hokie.

Over the past couple of months, Kalen McCain has seen his stock rise rapidly.

McCain visited Virginia Tech on Saturday and when he returned home, he knew he wanted to be a Hokie.

"I had been thinking about it since the day they offered me," said the 6-foot-2, 175-pound McCain.

"When I took the visit on Saturday, I felt it was the best place for me. It was my first time in Blacksburg – it was nice. They talked about their tradition and how they have high expectations – and I always like to be challenged."

Virginia Tech had everything McCain was looking for in a football program.

"They have a good program, great fans and Coach (Frank) Beamer and Coach (Bud) Foster are good coaches," he said. "I'm just really excited to have a chance to play up there and I feel really good about my decision."

As a junior, McCain registered 36 tackles, four interceptions (returned one for a touchdown), five pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
