DeShaun Watson committed to Clemson back in early 2012, but that has not stopped schools from…
Deshaun Watson's MVP Performance
Deshaun Watson (6'2/190) of Gainesville High School in Georgia helped lead his team to a State Championship last year. He is the epitome of a field general who has absolute command of his offense and his quick, accurate decisions match the way he throws the ball.
But the Elite 11 tryout isn't as much about quarterbacking as it is about the pure mechanics of throwing the football. Sure there are drills that involve reads, but picking out a stationary target with his hands in the air don't replicate what a quarterback faces on the gridiron.
Watson's credentials on the high school football field weren't in question, but how good of a thrower was he going to be in this setting?
Never known for having a huge arm, Watson still showed off more than enough arm to hit the deep out routes, and he has an uncanny ability to get his receivers in rhythm and complete timing routes to players he'd only begun to throw to.
Watching him throw the ball in this video, one might think there are some duplicate plays in here as Watson is so consistent, some of the reps he took look like replays.
On the recruiting front, Watson is a "committed but..." prospect right now. Watson is committed to Clemson, but... still retains interest in Oregon, Ohio State, and Georgia among others.
Watson took home the MVP of the camp and earned an invite to The Opening, the most prestigious camp in the nation this summer.
See him in action in HD. Warning, to get the feel for the camp and his day, the video is not muted, so there is music in the background and a considerable amount of wind noise.
