Chino Hills (Calif.) receiver Donovan Walker (6-2, 180), has done nearly every camp and 7on7 tournament that has popped up this spring.
Walker is making himself known so he can land that elusive first offer.
“I think Stanford might be the closest one,” said Walker. “Boise State and Northern Illinois are talking to me a lot too. The first school that offers me might get me to commit.”
Walker visited the Bay Area earlier this month, seeing California, San Jose State and Stanford.
He talked about each school:
Stanford- “I really liked the campus, the campus was huge and it’s by a lot of stuff. Coach (Derek) Mason really wanted me there, so pretty much all I have to do is go to their camp and see where that takes me.”
Cal- “I loved their facilities and the campus was really cool. I talked with Coach (Rob) Likens. The only thing with them is they’re taking 1-2 receivers but I have to go to their camps to get an offer.”
San Jose State- “I talked to Coach (Donte) Williams and Coach Lewis and the head coach Ron Caragher as well. They said they’re going to come down this spring, but it might depend on the first three games of my season. I liked the campus. And the stadium was cool and they’re going to be renovating it soon.”
Walker attended USC’s Junior Day, and the Trojans have long had his attention.
“I went to USC’s Junior Day and it went really well,” said Walker. “I love Coach (Tee) Martin. He’s really cool. And I know Dion Bailey as well. USC is my dream school.”
Walker has been solid all spring at numerous 7on7 tournaments, and has earned all-tourney at a couple.
“I’m getting recruited mostly in the slot,” said Walker. “I’m just doing what I can to get my first offer.”
Academically, Walker has a 3.0 and is taking the SAT next month.
