PASwag 7v7: Samuel's Offer List Growing
Most of Curtis Samuel's offers are to play running back, but the Erasmus Hall High (Brooklyn) standout is also being recruited to play in the secondary by one of the latest schools to offer. "Miami was talking to me about playing defense, maybe safety," Samuel said. "I feel I'm an offensive player, but whatever gets me on the field, I try to go with that." Samuel said his offer list includes Rutgers, Florida, Nebraska, Virginia, Boston College, Ohio State and USC. "Recruiting-wise, Ohio State, Rutgers, Maryland, Nebraska and Vanderbilt are talking to me the most," Samuel said. "I like to be aggressive on both sides of the ball." On Tuesday, Nebraska and Florida stopped by to see Samuel. "Football-wise, I'm looking for a place that fits my style of play, a place where I can be successful in the offense," he said. "Academic-wise, I want to go to a school where all the players graduate so I can do things (off the field) if football doesn't work out." While a Flood of schools is expected to go through Erasmus Hall in the coming weeks, Samuel has not made it out to see many places. In fact, his lone recruiting visit went to nearby Rutgers, where he is being recruited by coach Kyle Flood and assistant coach Rob Spence. "They're great coaches, and they're great people," Samuel said. "I see they want to make Rutgers a great team. They're worried about now and the future. They want to get great players to go there and win a championship." As a junior, ran for 1,047 yards and 13 touchdowns on 91 carries, and caught 12 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns. He also made 33 tackles and intercepted one pass playing in the secondary. The next part of his recruitment is getting out to schools, although he is yet to make a schedule, but he spoke about several of the schools recruiting him. Ohio Stae: "I talk to the (coach) Urban Meyer and (assistant) coach Ed Warinner and a few other coaches. Urban Meyer is a great coach. I've watched him coach many great teams. He coached Percy Harvin, and that's the type of role I want to play in an offense." Miami: "I don't know much about Miami, but I know good players came from there like Ed Reed, Ray Lewis. It's a great program. I know Gus (Edwards) is going there. I don't know him much, but I have said a few things to him. That's about it." Vanderbilt: "They have a good academic program, and they have a good football program. Their running backs run the ball a lot, and I like the offense." Maryland: "I don't know much about Maryland. I've watched their games, but that's about it."
