First Big Wave
Over a 36-hour span, there was the first big flurry of commitments from the
While only three players committed, two were Scout 300 prospects and the
other was just outside the 300.
La Mirada (Calif.) receiver Dallis Todd got things going on Monday afternoon,
committing to Oklahoma after spending the weekend in Norman. The four-star
had over 30 offers and chose the Sooners over a range of schools from across the
Later that day, Henderson (Nev.) Green Valley four-star offensive tackle
Tyrell Crosby, the #2-ranked player in the state of Nevada, committed to Oregon.
On Tuesday night, Jalen Harvey, a three-star receiver from El Cerrito
(Calif.), committed to the local school, California. One of three
prospects from El Cerrito with BCS offers, Harvey is the first local commit to
the Bears in this class.
The West's #2-ranked prospect, and the nation's top safety, Long Beach
(Calif.) Poly's Juju Smith, named his top five this week.
“My top five is USC, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame and UCLA,” Smith told
national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins. “I plan to visit all of those schools and then make a decision pretty close to Signing Day or whenever my last visit is. Right now, I don’t have a leader, all those schools are cool and they’re all recruiting me hard.
Smith hasn't ruled out anyone yet, though.
“If I had to pick the schools recruiting me the hardest, I would probably say Oklahoma State, Michigan, Ohio State, UCLA, USC and Arizona,"
Smith told Biggins. "Even though I have a top five, I’m still open to other schools and I know there’s a long way to go in my recruitment."
UCLA went East to get a transfer, from Pennsylvania. Rushel Shell, a
five-star running back in the 2012 class, who played as a true freshman for Pittsburgh last fall, announced he would be transferring to UCLA and is hoping to be
eligible this fall, while 2014 is more likely. His transfer could change
how many running backs the Bruins target in the 2014 class.

LB - Gardena (Calif.) Serra - 2015
Serra, as usual, is loaded.
Aside from having the West's top player in 2014 and the top linebacker, as well
as a Boise State commit at quarterback, two of it's top prospects might actually
be in the 2015 class. Linebacker John Houston, who was an all-underclass
honoree at the L.A. NFTC last month, and Rasheem Green, a freaky athlete who
also had a great weekend at both the NFSC and NFTC, both were offered by UCLA in
the days after the camp. This week, USC and Florida offered by Houston and
Green, and Washington also offered by Green. Expect both of these guys to
be locks for the Scout 100 in the 2015 class, and this to just be the beginning
of their rising stock.
