Bartram Trail offensive tackle Jesse Burkett who held offers from North Carolina and USF has picked up an additional nine scholarship offers since the spring evaluation period begin. Over the last several days Purdue, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, West Virginia, Navy, Yale, Princeton and Ohio have all extended offers to Burkett.
The 6-foot-4 and 270-pound Burkett doesn't have any favorites yet but did say that institutions with a strong academic background would certainly be given the strongest consideration. This philosophy was reinforced when asked about attending camps this summer. At this time he is only planning on camping at Stanford although the Cardinal have yet to offer.
Projected by most as a offensive guard at the FBS level, Burkett plans to spend the spring and summer in the weight room getting stronger. While he feels his footwork is the strength of his game he did say he felt like he needed to be more explosive off the ball. While watching him in practice he does demonstrate good footwork, comes off the ball low and bends very well for his size.
I look for more offers to follow as May recruiting hits full stride in Florida.
