OT McHale Has Busy June Scheduled
Dunmore (Pa.) High offensive tackle James McHale picked up his first offer when Syracuse extended one Tuesday, and he has a camp schedule set for June that should result in a few more. McHale will visit Syracuse on June 2, and then head to Buffalo the next day. He will also camp at Pittsburgh (June 8), Ohio State (June 9), Connecticut (June 17) and Rutgers (June 22). "I tried to narrow it down to schools I'm interested in going to and it's regional for me," McHale said. "They all said they wanted to see me in camp before they offer." The 6-foot-7, 290-pound McHale is going to camps not only to perform, but also get a feel for the programs. "I want to see how the coaches are coaching, and the seeing the campuses are a big part of it," McHale said. "I want to see how the coaches are and their personalities, and how they're interacting with all the other players." That McHale has an offer from Syracuse helps take the pressure off of performing at camps, and the message he received from the Orange staff was encouraging. "They told me they want me at offensive tackle, which I'm kind of happy about," he said. "I like playing tackle. I wouldn't want to move." However, he doesn't know much about the program. "To be honest, I don't know much but I'm trying to get up there June 2 for a campus tour and meet the coaches and see the facilities," McHale said. "I'm still trying to do my research on them. "They came in two or three weeks ago and said they wanted to have me at camp. And then, out of nowhere, my coach called me down to the office and he wanted me to call (assistant) coach (Pat) Pereles. I'd say it came out of the blue a little bit." McHale helped lead Dunmore to the PIAA Class A title game in the fall, and since then he's been working to improve his flexibility. "I've been working on my lower body and squats," McHale said. "I think my run game is going to improve and I'll be better next year. I've been working to be more flexible in the hips and the knees. That's been my main goal."
