NFTC Columbus: Top Ten Underclassmen
National Recruiting Analyst
Posted Jun 5, 2013
There was plenty of young talent at Sunday's NIKE Football Training Camp, but here are the ten we thought had the best days.
Note: This list is based purely on Sunday's performance and not future projection. For instance, there are some guys like Tim Settle, who are big time guys and talented guys, but the kids below simply had more opportunities to take reps or simply had better days. Also, quarterbacks mostly performed the day before, so no quarterbacks are on the list.
of Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward are differently built. Andrew is a thick running back, David is a long, athletic receiver and corner, but had outstanding days and we believe both should end up as BCS prospects. This will be the year they get to show it on the field though.
Farmington Hills (Mich.) Harrison freshman
had us wanting to see his birth certificate as he has quickness, route running skills, hands and competitiveness beyond his years. Still a pup who needs to add size and strength, he looks like he has a very bright future.
of Saginaw (Mich.) Heritage already holds a handful of major offers and we can see why. He has good size, but is also very smooth and caught the ball well as a receiver. Some schools are recruiting him as a defensive back, but he looked the part of a BCS caliber wideout on Sunday.
That big, menacing looking kid with the wild hair is only a sophomore (2015).
of Roanoke (Va.) Northside has a big, wide body and is already quite powerful considering his youth. He has the type of build schools are looking for in a gap plugger, but also has the athleticism to be more than just a guy who takes up space.
We expected Danish exchange student
to be big and athletic, but maybe a little raw, as he has only been in the states for a year, but the 6'4, 275-pound Warren Harding (Ohio) product showed he had some technical skills as well. He used his hands very well and also kept himself low and won the leverage battles. It was easy to see why he already has a handful of BCS offers.
Trotwood-Madison has quite a few prospects in their 2015 class, but one people may not know as much about is wide receiver
. That said, his quickness and speed made it tough for defenders to cover him. He can cut on a dime and create separation. All he has to do now is add weight.
Linebackers have it tough at these events, as the position is based on contact, but Toledo Central Catholic's
showed he can play in space and cover. The rising junior broke up several passes. Already holding some offers, he has a good chance to add more as the process moves along.
Ashland (Ky.) Blazer freshman running back
had a good day catching the ball. A compact kid, he was a good route runner who showed good feet and he caught everything that was thrown at him. He is definitely one to keep an eye on for future years.
of Nordonia (Ohio) is a massive kid (6'7, 340), but he showed he was more than just a large body. He has solid footwork for a young kid and is a powerful guy who wins when he gets his hands on kids. He has the look of a future right tackle in college.
