, a two-way star at Winnetonka (MO) High School, received his first Division 1 offer from the University of Iowa
. Griffins head coach Sterling Edwards released the news via Twitter Sunday afternoon.
"Long time coming," Edwards said via the social networking site. "Aaron Mends got his first offer today. University of Iowa steps up with scholarship offer."
A 6-foot, 195-pound athlete, Mends posted an overall SPARQ rating of 112.20 at the Nike Football Scouting Combine in Chicago on the strength of a 4.59-second forty-yard dash and 37.3 inch vertical leap. As a junior, he was a Second Team All-Conference and All-District performer at RB, but he starred on defense. Mends earned Unanimous First Team All-Conference honors at LB, along with being named Second Team All-State and Second Team All-Metro.
Aaron Mends was a standout at both running back and linebacker at Winnetonka (MO) in 2012. After a bevy of post-season honors, and a strong performance at last month's NFSC in Chicago, Mends picked up his first offer today from Iowa.
