Lawry Makes Decision

Kingsway High (Woolwich, N.J.) High running back Ray Lawry made his verbal commitment Monday.

Old Dominion spent plenty of time the past few years recruiting New Jersey, and the dividends continue to pay off.

After Williamstown (N.J.) High cornerback Marques Little committed over the weekend, Kingsway High (Woolwich, N.J.) High running back Ray Lawry joined the class. He announced tonight he committed to Old Dominion.

"I took a visit over weekend and got to see all of the campus and I toured the facilities," Lawry said. "I liked everything about it. It's a great school. I like the school, and it's on the beach. On the field you work hard and off the field you can have some fun."

Lawry also likes the backing the football program is receiving from athletics.

"It was crazy how much money they have and what they are trying to do," Lawry said. "They're trying to build a new stadium with 35,000 seats and then expand it to 60,000. They're trying to get new practice facilities and the football program is on the rise."

Lawry rushed for more than 2,200 yards and 32 touchdowns as a junior, and he believes ODU will move to a more running-based offense with his arrival.

"Over the past few years they haven't run the ball much, but the head coach said with my talents it would be dumb not to run the ball a lot more," Lawry said. He said I will also be split out and play receiver a little and they would look for different ways to get me the ball. The coaches said I have a great opportunity to go in and play early."
